Stop Hunger

More than 49 million Americans are hungry right now. 1 in 4 children and 1 in 6 people need your help to fill their hungry tummys. Anyone can become hungry, these are not necessarly people living on the street. Millions of people miss a few meals a day because they are struggling to make ends meet. Many of these individuals are hardworking American’s.

Wal-Mart is doing their part in helping by putting on a contest through facebook and giving a portion of profit from select products to hunger programs. Wal-Mart has selected 200 communities to be in the contest. They are giving $1 million to the first place winner and $50,000 to the top 20 communities. You can vote for Reno once every 24 hours. The recipients will receive a portion of:

  • More than 1.1 billion pounds of food from Walmart stores, distribution centers and Sam’s Club locations, valued at $1.75 billion;
  • Grants totaling $250 million to support hunger relieforganizations at the national, state and local levels;
  • Mobilizing Walmart associates and customers. For example, Walmart’s logistics team will lend their expertise to help food banks become more efficient in their operations; and
  • Collaboration with government, food manufacturers and other corporations that are fighting hunger to increase impact and reach a greater number of families in need.

There are many ways you can help the hungry in America. Just donating $1 to Feeding America supplies American’s with eight meals.
